e-scavenger hunt

1.      When I looked at the events, there were not any for this semester. There were however events for next semester. There is a spring career and internship fair in January. There is also a Technology career fair in February, and a summer part time job fair in March. And on-campus interviews are to be announced.

2.      List 4 services offered by the Career Development Center.                                                                         You are able to find and contact counselors from the site. They also have many job searching resources that help in the job searching process. They also offer a free resume builder that you can use. They also provide a calendar of events, so you can be to a of those events that can help you in finding a job.

3.      Look under the “Students” tab for the “Job Search Engines”.  What are 4 sources the website suggests you to look for job opportunities?  Some that I thought would be beneficial to me were, careerbuilders.com, student jobs, usajobs, and campuscareercenter.com

4.      Locate the names of 4 counselors and tell what their specific area is.
Jordan Doman, College of Technology & Computing and College of Aviation & Public Services
Dan Felts, College of Science and Health
Gary Gardener, School of Education and School of the Arts
Sue Stevenson, College of Humanities and Social Sciences
5.     What services are available to help you prepare for grad school?
UVU has a graduate exam preparation center, which will help you prepare for those difficult tests. They have graduate school fairs, that help you find specific grad programs, and also med schools. They will help you find the best grad school for you.

6.     Find Optimal Resume on the CDC website (homepage).  This is a free service to help students create a basic resume.                                                                                                                                                  Found it and it works very well.

7.      Where is the CDC office located?  What is the office phone number?
LC room 409.  801-863-6364

8.     Who is the Director of Internship Services? Who is the Internship Coordinator?  Where is the Internship Office located?
You are the director of Internship services, Maren Mather is the internship coordinator. The office is in LC 410

9.     What is the process for setting up an internship for credit?
You have to do the online orientation, and then your department has to ok it.

10.  List two internships found on the “Weekly Hot Internships” list?
Novell INC, Southwest Airlines

11.  List two internships available in Washington DC and the current deadline for application.
LDS Public and International Affairs: dead line was Oct 30, next dead line is March 5.
Republican National Committee: Dec 15
12.  Find the testimonial page for internships.  (http://www.uvu.edu/internships/students/testimonials.html) View at least one testimonial.  Who did you watch and what did you learn?  Look at the written testimonials.  What one impressed you?
I watched Courtney Kilpack, I learned that the more internships you do the better. She felt that by her doing her 3 internships, she was able to secure a job by the time she graduated.
I was impressed by all of them, they all had really good aspects. But I liked Trevor Tooke’s, how he was able to still stay in the area and meet a lot of local business owners and was even offered jobs by some of them. Another one that I liked was David Iba, because I speak Portuguese also. That would be a neat opportunity.

13.  What internship scholarships are available?
There are quite a few internship opportunities availiable, there are 9 General scholarships, 10 Government scholarships, and 4 non-profit scholarships. Which im sure go pretty quickly.

14.  Take a look at the Internship Blog and Facebook page.  What suggestions do you have that would make these more helpful?
I thought that the facebook page was super awesome, I was surprised that it had so much stuff on it. There was a lot of networking happening when I looked at it. I couldn’t think of anything that I could come up with that would be more helpful, for this great website. Looks like you guys are doing it right.

15.  Go go to the “Have a quick Question” box on the internship home page and ask a question regarding internships.  Write the question you asked below.
Are there a lot of opportunities for internships in Brazil, or even the Brazilian embassy or the American Embassy in Brazil?
