Internship Sales

I will give six reasons why an internship is
the right thing for you to do, and how it can be beneficial.
1. Job Experience: One of the most
important things I think that you can get out of an internship is experience.
Many companies now days are only hiring people who have done internships in the
areas they are hiring, because you have the experience needed for that position.
When you have an internship under your belt you are more sellable, so it’s
becoming more and more no internship no job.
2. Networking: This is just as important
if not more so than job experience. When you do an internship you are
surrounded by people who are in the field you want to end up in. The more
friends you make during your internship the more likely you will get a job in
that field. If you impress them while you are there then the more they will be
willing to either hire you or refer you to another company.
3. The good and the bad: One reason there
are internships is so that we can see if that is the career we really want to
pursue. It gives us an opportunity to view it first hand, so we can see what it
is going to be like and if we would actually enjoy that career.
4. Traveling: There are internship
opportunities all over the world as well as all over the United States. Which
can gives us the opportunity to see different cultures and learn other things
that you wouldn’t usually learn on your college campus. Plus traveling is just
plain fun anyway.
5. Putting to use your previously acquired
knowledge: Besides gaining more knowledge and experiences, an internship
also lets you use your knowledge that you have gained while in the class room and
lets you put it to practical use. By giving you a chance to use your knowledge
where you probably wouldn’t be able to put it to the test otherwise.
6. School credit: Another benefit that
comes from completing an internship is college credit. Instead of just good
experiences an internship can also benefit you on your way to completing your
schooling by giving you credit towards your major.
How to get started
on an internship
1.
First thing you need to do is locate a resource to find
internships. For UVU students you can register on UV job board where you can
find hundreds of internships that are available to you. Meet with a counselor,
they will be able to help you find an internship that best suits you. This is
also a good time to develop or better you resume.
2.
Get in touch with the employer and the Internship
Coordinator. The Internship Coordinator will be able to help you in the process
of applying and also throughout your internship experience. If you are going
out of the country you need to meet with the International Center to get your
visa and out of country housing ready, you should visit them 6 months or more
before you internship starts.
3.
As you are doing your internship, be engaged. Ask lots
of questions learn the most you can about that occupation. Be active and a team
player so you can make sure that that particular career is right for you.
If you do these simple things you will have a great
internship experience, and will guarantee you success in the future
