This semester I have been able to
see what I need to do for my future, and make an academic and career plan to accomplish
my desires. I am in the process of transferring to a school that has the
program I want to pursue. I am planning on getting my bachelor’s degree by the
winter of 2015. That all depends on if I can start school in the fall of 2013.
During the last summer at school I want to do an Internship, to be able to get
experience in the career field as well as a good network going. So that I might
be able to get help finding a job after I graduate. After I graduate I want to
get a job as a petroleum engineer with an oil exploration company. I wouldn’t
mind having to live out of the united states for a bit. I hope to get in with a
good well known company and make a name for myself in the industry, which will
come with a lot of hard work and dedication. The reason I chose this plan is
cause it makes the most sense to me, and I think in the long run its going to
make me the happiest.
At the beginning of this class I had an idea
what I wanted to do, but after this class I know that my idea is what I want to
pursue. I have been able to look into the field and find out more about the industry.
Professor Haynes helped a lot by encouraging me to study it out and make sure
that it is something that I would like and also if it will be a good occupation
choice in the future. So for now I have decided what I want to do for a career
and this class has helped me come to a solid decision.
Out of all of the
things that we have done as a class a couple of the things that helped me the
most was, the informational interview and the job shadow. As well as the top 3
occupations and any other time we were asked to look up the things that we were
interested in. From the informational interview I was able to learn the important
qualities needed to be a good employee on a large company level. From the job
shadow I was able to learn about other areas where petroleum engineers can
work.
I don’t have many
goals for the future but the ones I do have are important to me. These are in
no certain order. I want to get my BS in Petroleum Engineering, which I will accomplish
by focusing all of my time and talents to my classes. I want to have a successful
career in petroleum engineering, which will start by doing well in school and
building relations ships with those who already have a foot in the door. I want
to raise a big family, I am married but it might still be a couple of years
still. And I want to live in an area where I can have a decent sized house and
property with a couple of motorcycles. Those for the most part are my plans for
the future.
